On January 28,2026, Thunder Bay Island Preservation Society will host the annual elections, establish an operating budget for the year, and vote on some required housekeeping items . The meeting begins at 6 PM, at the Charter Township of Alpena office building, 4385 US 23 North, Alpena.
On the ballot is a familiar name for President; Janet Spencer. Jan has been a member since 1997, and during that time has filled many positions within the Society. Her experience as Chairwoman of the Michigan Waterways Commission has been a great asset to our organization. Her understanding of obstacles that we would encounter as we transition toward a permanent dock and walkway to the shoreline have been very insightful. For newer members who have not had the pleasure of knowing Jan, you will find her a calm and caring person, and very knowledgeable about TBIPS.
Other positions open are Dave Skibbe, a long term TBIPS member, is running to fill the Vice-President position. Dave has served as our treasurer, but most recently worked hard on the Buildings and Grounds committee. Treasurer Steve Dean is on the ballot to be re-elected to that position. Secretary Sue Skibbe is running for that position again.
For all members who have yet to return your ballots, please fill them in, place them in the postage-paid pre-addressed envelope sent in your December mailing. With your continued support we will be able to plan out the 2026 work season.
